Wild Duck Cluster
Messier 11
The Wild Duck Cluster (Messier 11) is an open cluster in the constellation Scutum. It is one of the richest open clusters with around 3,000 stars.
The cluster is very massive with a distance of only one light-year between the stars. It is composed of very luminous giants yellow stars, indicating an age of 220 million years. Its brightest star has a magnitude of 8.5. Around 500 of the stars in this cluster have a magnitude greater than 14.
The blue stars in the center are the youngest and hottest stars, the red ones are the oldest and coldest.
L’amas du Canard Sauvage (Messier 11) est un amas ouvert situé dans la constellation de l’Écu de Sobieski. C’est l’un des amas ouverts les plus riches, contenant environ 3 000 étoiles.
L’amas, très dense, possède une distance moyenne entre ses étoiles de 1 année-lumière. Il contient quelques géantes jaunes très lumineuses indiquant un âge de 220 millions d’années. Son étoile la plus lumineuse possède une magnitude de 8,5. 500 des étoiles composant cet amas ont une magnitude supérieure à 14.
Les étoiles bleues au centre sont les étoiles les plus jeunes et les plus chaudes, les rouges sont les plus âgées et les plus froides.
